Aluminum Overcast

Image
One week ago today I was part of the crew to take Aluminum Overcast, the EAA B-17 Flying Fortress, down to Paducha Kentucky. Greatest thrill of my lifetime to date because I actually got to fly the airplane for 10 minutes. I can still hear and feel the rumble of the big engines today a week later.

Flight

Flight always held my interest with undivided attention. First when I went up in the air on a homemade rope swing, I work at forgetting the down part when I landed head first on a rock as my brothers did not tie the knot well. Later as the crisp fresh winter air chilled my face as I raced the wind, 12 feet straight down into a snow drift as my brothers dropped me head first off a tall farm wall. At least this landing was softer. Lately I have progressed to a new peak, after playing right seat to my brothers in their flying careers I have at last made a new inroad in flight worth mentioning I have flown the mighty Flying Fortress, the B-17. Albeit for only 0.1 hours logged my my logbook, it was really more like 0.2, it was a tenth of an hour of pure flight heaven.
